As seen in the new trailer, the series is set in the Deep South ‘50s, as a Black man and woman attempt to fight off monsters whilst uncovering the truth behind the man’s family legacy. Since this takes place in Jim Crow-era America, our lovebirds also encounter rampant racism along the way. If Peele’s own “Get Out” and “Us” prepared us for anything, it’ for a filmmaker loves to mix genre cinema with societal discourse. This latest excursion for Peele, who is listed as producer, looks promising enough, but there is a risk of laying it on a little too thick or, even, given that this is a blend of genres, tonal deficiencies occurring. HBO is expected to premiere “Lovecraft Country” in August.
