I seem to have missed yesterday’s tidbit that, via a report from Osage News, production for ‘Killers’ has now been reported to February of 2021. Yikes. It turns out that crew on the Scorsese film is now exploring the necessary safety protocols to safely kick production off — after all, Scorsese and De Niro are no spring chickens, both are in their 70s and both have underlying conditions (Scorsese has asthma) that could be worsened by the COVID-19 virus....
It all stems from MGM feeling the pressure because, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest James Bond movie’s theatrical delays are costing MGM $1 million per month in interest alone. THR is also reporting that it wasn’t even Netflix who came closest to matching the $650 million price tag, but, rather, Apple. According to the report, Apple wouldn’t go over $400 million for what would have been a 12-month license....
Lapid constructs a loosely freewheeling narrative based on his own experiences as a former Israeli soldier who went to France for a new life, free of the politics ravaging his native country. The result is a sensational statement on identity, nationality and privilege. “Synonyms” follows young Israeli ex-soldier Yoav (newcomer Tom Mercier in an energetic performance), who decides to move to Paris to escape Israel’s toxic politics. As soon as he arrives, Yoav wakes up naked in an empty apartment, and someone has stolen all of his belongings....
The filmmaker described the situation as such: It’s not surprising that studios would pass on such a hard-sell, a no-bulls and personal artistic statement which was tailor-made to have studio bigwigs running away from it. A24 must be commanded for doing the right thing, having the guts to pick up this film for release. I sadly don’t think there is another studio of their caliber that would have been able to take on “First Reformed” and promoted it as efficiently as they did....
So, what’s the plan for the next 28 days or so. New York and Los Angeles have more than a few theatres booked; Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle currently have 2-3 theatres booked each. Those are fairly large American cities and it’s a no-brainer to open Scorsese’s opus there, but what about the rest of America? That’s where it gets a little more depressing. Netflix could not get theatre chains like AMC, Regal and Cineplex to book “The Irishman” because of their clear cut Netflix biases....
Despite having garnered universal acclaim since it premiered last Saturday, the film was not seen as a likely winner of Venice’s most prestigious prize. A prize that had only thrown up two US winners in the last 10 years, Guillermo Del Toro’s “The Shape of Water” (which would go on to win the Academy’s Best Picture prize), and 2010’s “Somewhere” from Sofia Coppola. The win for ‘Joker’ not only cements its position in the Oscar conversation, most notably in the form of star Joaquin Phoenix, who has received career best reviews for his turn as Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime, with critics bending over backwards to find superlatives to describe his performance....
I had been told by a close friend that Blum was receiving death threats over the whole ordeal. Speaking to Vulture, Blum admitted he had learned a lot from the controversy and that it, quite frankly, shook him: “I learned a lot of lessons,” admitted Blum. “If I was offered the choice to make the movie again, I would say yes. We definitely made marketing mistakes, and we made plenty of mistakes along the way....
The film is based on the true story of a 1960 Israeli covert mission, and as with all Israeli covert missions this must include Mossad and its lethal agents. More specifically, the story of legendary Mossad agent Peter Malkin’s infiltration into Argentina and his capture of Adolf Eichmann. Why does Mossad want Eichmann so bad? Well, apart from being a sort of trusted side man for Hitler, Eichmann, it turns out, was the brains behind the transportation logistics that brought the Jews to their deaths by train....
Speaking with The New York Times: “It’s too soon for him to have a surprise one, that’s for sure,” Byrne said when asked whether the comedian was ready for a comeback. “I think if he’s going to show up, just let everybody know so then they can make a decision, like, ‘I don’t want to see this guy — I’m out.’ It’s also the gatekeepers around these things who give people the chance to have a comeback....
“On the Rocks’ has no release date as of now. It was rumored to premiere at this September’s Venice Film Festival, but, of course, we don’t really know if that festival will even happen given the current lockdown and social distancing guidelines due to the COVID-19 pandemic Apple has expressed interest in giving this film a theatrical release, but with the virus raging on, maybe Coppola will be open to having her film premiere directly on the AppleTV+ streaming platform, especially if Oscar eligibility rules are changed and streamed films are allowed to compete for next year’s ceremony....
I wrote back in December: “The “BlacKkKlansman” director had a solid outing with the aforementioned movie last year, which was deemed a comeback of sorts after a rough 10-year stretch of films that included “Miracle at St. Anna,” “Red Hook Summer,” “Oldboy,” “Da Sweet Blood of Jesus” and, to a lesser extent, “Chiraq.” Those were the five worst Lee movies of his career (as far as I’m concerned).” “And this is coming from an unadorned fan of his....
The average American is currently streaming 8 hours of content per day and finishing three TV series per week. Yikes. Given the amount of free time we all have now, that shouldn’t be as surprising as it sounds, but JESUS! No wonder Netflix has officially surpassed Disney’s stock and is now worth more than the mouse house. Contribute Hire me Advertise Donate Team Contact Privacy Policy
“Of course it’s cinema! It’s at the movies! It’s in cinemas…near you,” said Waititi. He added, “Marvel CINEMA-tic Universe.” Contribute Hire me Advertise Donate Team Contact Privacy Policy

There are some folks out there who believe that “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is one of the best threequels ever made. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Yes, It might be better than its two predecessors, and I might be pulling for it to get an Oscar nom, but no way does it comes near the “best.” I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t punching a bag of cement in my assertion that there were, at the very least, 10 better threequels than ‘No Way Home....

At least the trailer for “Dumbo” looks great and feels like a Tim Burton movie, which can’t be said about the other aforementioned films he’s directed the past few years. Suffice to say, if you add his other failed endeavors like “Dark Shadows,” Burton has been stuck in a rut for more than a decade. His last great movie? Probably “Sweeney Todd” back in 2007. Nevertheless, I have hopes for “Dumbo,” the trailer looks outstanding and it re-teams him with his “Beetlejuice” and “Batman” leading actor Michael Keaton....
The 24-year-old Chalamet is best known for his roles in “Call Me By Your Name,” and “Lady Bird.” Next up, he will star in Denis Villeneuve’s much-anticipated epic “Dune.” Mangold, best known for having directed “Logan” and “I Walk the Line,” has been helming adult dramas now for close to 20 years in Hollywood, which is an unprecedented feat given the amount of paradigm-shifting that has occurred in Tinseltown over these last few decades....
