Park Chan-wook’s “Decision to Leave” and Ruben Ostlund’s “Triangle of Sadness” have been selected for the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, according to my sources close to the festival. They are one of the very first films to have been chosen for next May’s event.
Both films were trying hard to make the deadline for this past June’s Cannes, but, in the end, just weren’t ready on time for submission. They both subsequently snubbed a Venice premiere in September and opted instead for Cannes 2022, which will mark the festival’s 75th edition.
Ostlund will be returning to Cannes for the first time since premiering his 2017 Palme d’Or winner, “The Square.” Not much is known about the plot for both of these movies, but here is what Wikipedia has to say:
“[Decision to Leave] has a detective falling for a mysterious widow after she becomes the prime suspect in his latest murder investigation set in the mountains.”
“Triangle of Sadness is a dark comedy centering on a fashion model celebrity couple who are invited on a luxury cruise for the super-rich. The yacht –whose captain is a rabid Marxist– sinks, leaving the duo stranded on a desert island with a group of billionaire jetsetters and a cleaning lady.”
