The film became the toast of the town at Venice, Telluride and Toronto. Its Metacritic score was 95 in early September, based on reviews stemming from those three festivals. Many more reviews were eventually added once it was released in November, people woke up to the fact that this was a mediocre film, et voila, it has now totally disappeared from theatres. Not to mention its Metacritic score is now in the mid 70s. A check of Fandango shows it is still playing in a few theaters, but basically it’s gone. Less than 100 cinemas in the U.S. are playing it. “Licorice Pizza”, which is screening in only a handful of screens, made more money this past weekend. Does this diminish Stewart as an Oscar contender? Kind of? With just $7 million made at the box office, and low audience scores on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, this could strip K-Stew of her frontrunner status, especially with likes of Haim, Zegler, Gaga, and Colman climbing up the charts.
